Frank N. Pieke led MERICS as director and CEO from August 2018 to January 2020.
Pieke’s current research revolves around the impact of China on Europe, foreign immigrant groups in China and the transformation of the Chinese Communist Party. His most recent books are The Good Communist (2009) and Knowing China (2016), both published by Cambridge University Press.
In Oxford he set up and directed the Oxford China Centre. Subsequently in Leiden he served as academic director of the Institute of Area Studies and as executive director of the Leiden Asia Centre. He has conducted numerous consultancy and externally funded projects.
