Christina Sadeler’s research focuses on state-society relations in China, on public debates, and on China’s social and environmental policy. She also watches institutional changes within the party-state system and China’s policies on Taiwan.
Before joining MERICS, Christina was a researcher at Heidelberg University. Christina gathered extensive working experience with the Heinrich Böll Foundation. She worked at and later headed the Beijing Office from 2011-2019 and served as Senior Program Officer for China in Berlin until 2021. In 2022, Christina spent nine months in Taiwan as part of the Taiwan Fellowship Program doing research on transitional justice and digital democracy.
Christina holds an MA in Sinology from Leipzig University and spent her foreign exchange years at Peking and Renmin University.
